Lamb & Flag Inn
The first mention that we have found of the pub was in 1833 when it and a Ripon Brewery were auctioned -
Above is an advertisement from the Yorkshire Gazette dated 17th September 1853 for the sale of the Lamb & Flag the under the landlordship of William Dobby. The next reference was when it was acquired by Richard Lumley & Co. of Ripon in 1858 and later the Brewery was taken over by Hepworth & Co., Crown Steam Brewery, Bondgate, Ripon. The pub, with many more, was then acquired by Vaux Breweries (Sunderland) in 1947. It became a free house during the 1980's.
Above and below show what we think is the York and Ainsty (North) Hunt.
Can anyone confirm and provide some idea of the dates?
The bar in 1957 - it looks pretty familiar!
Looking at the car (Ford?) this was probably from the 1950/60's
Can you date this? Sometime around the 1980's?
The Sale of the pub in 1993 to Trevor & Carol Pawson
and an Advert pre 1994 (based on the structure of the phone number)
